From 13 to 19 October 2025, the Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung (HSS) welcomed its sixth delegation under the EU - China Think Tank Engagement on Green Governance project, financed by the European Union. The visit brought together seven European think tank experts as well as five board members from CONCITO, Germanwatch, Agora Verkehrswende, IEEP, and the France-China Climate Initiative, marking one of the most senior expert group compositions since the project began. Over the course of the week in Beijing and Chengdu, the delegation engaged with high-level Chinese institutions to deepen cooperation on climate policy, the clean and just energy transition, and green governance.

In the context of rising geopolitical tensions, fragile multilateral institutions, and a global backlash against green policies, the EU-China joint commitment on climate change gains new importance. The recent joint statement on climate change provides hope that both sides can overcome bilateral challenges to work together on accelerating the global green transition and tackling climate change, both domestically and through their investment and trade abroad. From 22 to 27 June 2025, the Hanns Seidel Foundation, in cooperation with the Central Party School of the Communist Party of China, hosted a delegation of Chinese academics for an intensive dialogue programme in Berlin and Munich. The aim of the programme was to strengthen mutual exchange, understand differences and explore common interests at a time of geopolitical tensions and growing uncertainty.

How can social progress be achieved? With this question in mind, a high-ranking delegation from the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) visited Munich at the invitation of the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSS) at the end of June 2025. For three days, experts from politics, academia, law enforcement, civil society and government exchanged views on current challenges and concrete solutions for women's rights, child protection, gender equality and digitalisation. The intensive exchange revealed that dialogue inspires and can help to bring about concrete improvements.

How can we balance development with nature conservation? From 16 to 21 June 2025, leading voices from Europe and China came together to explore this question during the latest EU-China Think Tank Dialogue on “Biodiversity and Land Use”.

From May 19 to 23, 2025, the third delegation visit under the EU-China Think Tank Engagement on Green Governance Project took place in Belgium and the Netherlands. Organized by the Hanns Seidel Foundation, with participation from think tanks affiliated with China’s Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), namely the Consulting and Research Center (CRC), and the Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Center (LCRC), as well as the Mangrove Conservation Foundation and the NbS Innovation Center of Peking University, and funded by the European Union.

From April 7 to 12, 2025, the second delegation visit under the EU-China Think Tank Engagement on Green Governance Project took place in Beijing and Shandong, organized by the Hanns Seidel Foundation with support from the think tanks of Chinese Ministry of Natural Resources and funded by the European Union.

From December 9th to 14th 2024, the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) successfully hosted its inaugural delegation as part of the EU funded EU-China Think Tank Engagement on Green Governance project. Over six days, European and Chinese think tank representatives engaged in discussions on critical topics, including natural resource exploitation and ecological protection, comprehensive land management, just transition, biodiversity protection and financing, resilient urban planning, etc.

On 6 November, the Delegation of the European Union to China launched the EU-China green think tank project, which aims to promote engagement among researchers and scholars, and to strengthen EU-China cooperation on pressing global climate and environmental issues.
